Frere School Jerusalem: A Historic Graduation Coinciding with the 150th Anniversary

In an atmosphere filled with pride and joy, Collège des Frères – Jerusalem celebrated the graduation of its latest cohort. This special occasion coincided with the historic 150th anniversary of the school's founding, marking another brilliant milestone in its long-standing educational journey.

The ceremony beautifully reflected years of hard work and dedication. It was not just a celebration of graduation, but a testament to a new generation of conscious young minds, ready to face future challenges with confidence and determination while carrying the message of knowledge and values instilled in them by the school.

The event was held under the patronage of Brother Habib Zraibi, the Regional Superior, and attended by distinguished official guests, led by the French Consul General in Jerusalem. A prominent group of religious, national, and educational figures also attended, including Bishop Marcuzzo (representing the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem), Bishop Ilario, Archbishop Atallah Hanna, Bishop Ephram Sama'an, Father Ibrahim Faltas, Dr. Hani Abdeen, and Dr. Bernard Sabella, alongside school principals and a large gathering of proud parents who shared in their children’s success.

In a touching gesture of gratitude and loyalty, special recognition and thanks were given to Mr. Abu Hanna, the school’s faithful guard, on the occasion of his retirement, honoring his long years of dedicated service and devotion to the institution.

The ceremony commenced with the grand processional of the graduates—a solemn moment marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. This was followed by a reading from the Holy Gospel and the lighting of the torch, symbolizing the light of science and knowledge. The master of ceremonies delivered a warm welcome address, which paved the way for various artistic and musical performances, alongside speeches in Arabic, English, and French, showcasing the school's rich cultural diversity and openness.

The celebration also featured traditional Dabke performances, poetry recitals, and musical pieces performed by the students, adding a vibrant and joyful touch that combined art, happiness, and a deep sense of belonging.

In his speech, the School Principal expressed his immense pride in the graduates. He emphasized that their achievements extend far beyond academic excellence, encompasses building a well-rounded character grounded in ethics, values, and responsibility. He delivered a clear message to the graduates, reminding them that they carry both the hope and the responsibility for the future, and urging them to remain trustworthy stewards of this legacy in their upcoming journeys.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the crucial role of parents and teachers, extending deep gratitude to them as vital partners in this success, recognizing their continuous support, guidance, and devotion to raising this generation.

The national dimension was strongly present throughout the event, reaffirming the special place Jerusalem holds in the hearts of the graduates. The speeches stressed the importance of preserving its identity and maintaining a deep connection to the city as a symbol of history, heritage, and a trust to be carried wherever they go.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, diplomas were distributed to the graduates, outstanding achievers were honored, and the school’s supporters and friends were recognized, all amidst an atmosphere of joy and pride that put a smile of accomplishment on everyone's face.

Ultimately, this graduation ceremony was not merely the end of a school stage, but the dawn of a new journey where the graduates depart as ambassadors of knowledge and values for their school and community, ready to write new chapters of success and excellence.
